A Ripple of Hope for Teaching Students Human Rights Education: Speak Truth To Power

(2012-08-23) The Teachers' Lounge recently featured an article by Speak Truth To Power (STTP) education consultant and Annandale High School teacher Katie Gould. In 'A Ripple of Hope for Teaching Students Human Rights Education: Speak Truth To Power,' Gould explains how she has infused the STTP curriculum into her lessons to support her students "as they empower themselves by realizing their true potential and acting on it."

STTP uses the experiences of courageous defenders from around the world to educate students and others about human rights, and urge them to take action. This summer, Gould worked with Senior Education Manager Karen Robinson to bring the STTP curriculum to schools in Washington, D.C. as well as to develop new STTP lessons based on the experiences of RFK Center founder Ethel Kennedy, 2011 RFK Human Rights Award Laureate Frank Mugisha, and 2012 RFK Human Rights Award Laureate Librada Paz.
