Ban on Land Mines

The International Campaign to Ban Landmines is a coalition of non-governmental organizations whose goal is to abolish the production and use of anti-personnel mines, a particular type of explosive weapon.

The International Campaign to Ban Landmines was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997.

In December 1997 122 governments signed the Mine Ban Treaty – officially The Convention on the Prohibition, Use, Stockpiling, Production and Transfer of Antipersonnel Mines and on Their Destruction.

Amongst the countries that have not signed the Mine Ban Treaty: USA, Russia, China and India.
