EventsCelebrities, Athletes to Join Kennedy Family for RFK Center Golf Tournament in Support of Human RightsEvents
(Hyannis Port, MA – Oct. 9, 2012) – Mrs. Robert Kennedy and the Kennedy family will host the 23rd annual RFK Center for Justice and Human Rights Golf Tournament in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, on Friday, October 12. With generous support from presenting sponsor Chrysler, players will tee off at 10:00 AM on the picturesque Hyannisport Golf Club waterfront course enjoyed by President Kennedy and Robert Kennedy. Mrs. Kennedy will be joined by more than 140 guests from around the world, including Bobby Farrelly, actors Dennis Haysbert and Trevor Donovan, National Football League Hall of Famer Gale Sayers, and sports legends Jim Lonborg, John Havlicek, and Rafer Johnson. "It's wonderful to see so many old and new friends gather on the course Bobby loved to give a boost to abandoned children in Haiti, farmworkers toiling for fair labor rights in the fields of New York and Florida, LGBTI activists seeking freedom in Uganda, and women standing up for equal rights in Zimbabwe. Teeing up with family, pals, world-class athletes, and celebrities is a fun way to honor Bobby’s memory, and carry forward his vision for justice and peace," said Mrs. Kennedy. The annual tournament raises more than $600,000 to support human rights work around the globe, and attracts golfers from across the United States, as well as Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Japan. The event comes one month before Mrs. Kennedy will present the RFK Center’s prestigious Human Rights Award to Librada Paz, a tireless leader in New York’s farmworker human rights movement. "The farmworkers' rights movement has been a cause dear to our family and the RFK Center for decades. Today, farmworkers in America still have no right to a day off per week, no recourse against retaliatory firing, and limited access to safe housing and health care," said Kerry Kennedy, President of the RFK Center. "Our multi-year partnership with Librada Paz will help us continue the fight for fair labor standards that Robert Kennedy and Cesar Chavez championed more than forty years ago." This year's Golf Tournament is presented by Chrysler. Sponsors include Nike, Coke, O'Sullivan Children Foundation, TJX Companies, Kenneth Cole, and H.J. Heinz Company, with product donors including Frontgate, Swarovski, TUMI, Vera Bradley, Brookstone, Kohler, Sharp, AT&T, Trek Bikes, Gibson, Hammacher Schlemmer, Zodiac, Laser Performance, Bosch, Brooks Brothers, Tiffany & Company, Fossil, Southwestern Energy, and Marwood Group.
