Playwright And Son Inspire Us To Speak Truth To Power

2012-01-03

Since the creation of the RFK Speak Truth To Power program, the Dorfmans have played a key role in creatively expressing and presenting the stories of the STTP Defenders in unique ways. A few years ago, renowned playwright Ariel Dorfman took Kerry Kennedy's interviews of Human Rights Defenders and threaded them together to write Speak Truth To Power: Voices from Beyond the Dark, a play that incorporated the events of individuals' lives to tell a universal story of human rights defenders working against oppression of all kinds across the globe. This play has been performed by actors both famous and unknown, in the United States and overseas, for audiences of dignitaries and students.

Recently, Ariel’s son, Rodrigo, a filmmaker,  took the message of Speak Truth To Power to heart and produced a brief video to illustrate what he believes makes this work so important, and how the RFK Speak Truth To Power program is making a difference by inspiring individuals to stand up and make a change in their communities and around the world.
