‘Fighting for Human Rights’

The New York Speak Truth To Power curriculum was recently highlighted in the Fall issue of Teaching Tolerance, a biannual publication of the Southern Poverty Law Center. The article gives special attention to human rights defenders Aminatou Haidar of Western Sahara, Kailash Satyarthi of India, and Wangari Maathai of Kenya.

The Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights and New York State United Teachers introduced Speak Truth To Power to New York schools in December 2010. The New York curriculum consists of 17 teacher-developed lessons based on the stories of rights advocates from all over the world.
