Gender-based violence

Violence committed against a victim because of his/her gender, for example violence against women such as rape, sexual assault, female circumcision, dowry burning, etc.; violence against women for failing to conform to restrictive social and cultural norms.

The Vienna Declaration specifically recognized gender-based violence as a human rights concern.
