Honor Killings

Honor crimes are acts of violence, usually murder, committed by male family members against female family members, who are held to have brought dishonor upon the family.
The mere perception that a woman has behaved in a way that "dishonors" her family is sufficient to trigger an attack on her life.

The killings often remain a private family matter wherein the man is considered innocent, even a hero, and often walks free without any punishment.

The killings occur in countries all across the Middle East, as well as Pakistan. Although many people in those countries find the killings unacceptable, the practice persists.
