Job Announcement: Advocacy Assistant

Progressive human rights organization seeks Advocacy Assistant to provide administrative and other support for domestic and international human rights programs.

ORGANIZATION: 

Since 1968, the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights has honored journalists, authors, and human rights activists who, often at great personal risk and sacrifice, are on the frontlines of the international movement for human rights and social justice. Partnering with these courageous and innovative human rights defenders, RFK Partners for Human Rights is the litigation, advocacy, and capacity-building arm of the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights. Combining a rights-based approach and extended multi-year partnerships with the RFK Award Laureates and other human rights activists, RFK Partners for Human Rights leverages its legal expertise, resources, and prestige to advance social justice goals around the world.

DUTIES:

The Advocacy Assistant will provide administrative and other support to program staff, including advocacy, litigation, and award programs within RFK Partners for Human Rights. Specific duties will include implementing and maintaining an electronic filing system; assisting in travel arrangements, expense, and credit card reports; assisting in logistical support and preparation for meetings and events; proofreading and editing correspondence and publications; conducting research; developing, implementing, and maintaining office protocols; assisting with the hiring of new employees when necessary; and maintaining accreditations with the UN and other bodies. In addition, the Advocacy Assistant will coordinate and supervise the internship program.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree and have one to two years experience providing program and administrative support, as well as knowledge of office procedures and equipment. Must demonstrate an interest in the human rights field; excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills; strong research, editing, writing, and proofreading skills; ability to work as part of a team and to take initiative, and work independently with minimal supervision; ability to prioritize responsibilities and shift focus as necessary; and strong computer skills, including knowledge of word processing, Excel, Power Point. Basic knowledge of Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Groups), Salesforce, Constant Contact, and Knowlegis a plus.

Fluency in Arabic, French, or Spanish is strongly preferred. Salary is commensurate with experience.
