Thanks to the generous support of the Yahoo! Human Rights Fund, the contributions of Laogai survivors, and the hard work of many, the newly redesigned Laogai Museum will open at the new location in Dupont Circle.
In 2,700 square feet of expertly designed space, Harry Wu will unveil even more artifacts from the Laogai Archives and dedicate a wall of remembrance to honor the victims of China’s repressive system.

The newly redesigned Laogai Museum will be more engaging, more informative, and more powerful than ever before. The new space will give the Laogai Research Foundation the opportunity to grow in event programming, better enabling to share the story of the Laogai with the general public. And as always, the museum will preserve the memory of those who have sacrificed their lives in the name of human rights in China.
The Laogai Research Foundation was established in 1992 by Laogai survivor Harry Wu, in order to gather information on and raise public awareness of the Laogai – China’s extensive system of forces-labor prison camps. LRF also works to document and publicize other systemic human rights violations in China, as well as to encourage advocacy for human rights in China.
