The Educational Programme
The global initiative Speak Truth To Power is dedicated to spreading wareness of human rights abuses and issues.
Speak Truth To Power aims to proactively engage the community in initiatives and events that bring human rights defenders in contact with youth and educators.
Through the combined power of arts and education, we aim not only to inspire, but also to empower individuals and communities to defend human rights.
The long term effect of the project is to show each person’s ability to create a change, in spite of adverse circumstances.
In the words of Robert Kennedy (South Africa, 1966): “Few will have the greatness to bend history; but each of us can work to change a small portion of the events, and in the total of all these acts will be written the history of this generation.”

The initiative consists of :
a book
an educational packet
a photo exhibition
a theatrical play
Over the last ten years, Speak Truth To Power has grown from a book exploring the quality of courage through the words of leading human rights defenders around the world, to a moving and inspirational play by esteemed Chilean writer Ariel Dorfman, a stirring photographic exhibition by Pulitzer Prize-winner Eddie Adams, a PBS documentary film, and an educational packet.
The book has been translated into Greek, Spanish, Korean, Arabic, and Italian. The educational packet has been distributed in high schools in Italy since 2008, and in Romania since 2010. The play has been produced to acclaim in Geneva, London, Helsinki, Athens, Madrid, Sydney, Bucharest, Rome and Florence. The photo exhibition has toured over twenty cities across America, including Boston, San Francisco, Washington, New York, Chicago, San Diego, Detroit, Houston, and Atlanta, and various countries including Italy, Switzerland and Romania.
