"LGBT equality key to fighting HIV/AIDS"

(2012-07-30) RFK Human Rights Awards Laureate and LGBTI activist Frank Mugisha was in Washington, DC last week to attend the International AIDS Conference. Ahead of the conference, Mugisha met with Michael Lavers at The Blade to discuss the link between LGBTI equality and the fight against HIV/AIDS. Mugisha explained that in Uganda there is no information for LGBTI people regarding protective measures against contracting sexually transmitted diseases, and this is contributing to the epidemic. Said Mugisha:

"[LGBTI people] are married, they're partnered, they're in heterosexual relationships but as well they're keeping their same-sex relations. So that means there's no information on any protective measures. There's no information on anything so that means they're engaging in unsafe sex and it is increasing HIV/AIDS."
