Robert F. Kennedy Sworn in as Attorney General

On Monday February 21 2011, C-SPAN broadcasted a special event that took place on January 21st at the Justice Department commemorating the 50th anniversary of the swearing-in of Robert F. Kennedy as 64th Attorney General.

Amongst the speakers: Attorney General Eric Holder, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Attorney General Kennedy’s daughter and the former Lieutenant Governor of Maryland.

During the event “RFK Remembered” was shown to the audience, along with a taped message from President Obama.

Following the remarks and the video retrospective a Panel discussion was held, moderated by Jack Rosenthal, a chief press officer at the Justice Department under AG Kennedy. The speakers included: John Seigenthaler, Administrative Assistant to Attorney General Kennedy; John Doar, the First Assistant of the Civil Rights Division during the Kennedy Administration; Charlayne Hunter-Gault, the first African American to graduate from the University of Georgia; Rep. John Lewis (D-GA).

After the panel, former Attorney General Nicholas Katzenbach, who served as Deputy Attorney General under Attorney General Kennedy, shared a video message.
