Kerry Kennedy and the RFK Europe staff visited Romania in April 2009, and presented our “Speak Truth To Power” educational projects for Romania.

Book

The book was translated in Romanian and published by Curtea Veche,  with the title “Spune Adevarul Puterii”.

Educational package

On February 10, 2009 the Romanian Ministry of Education authorized the adoption of the "Speak Truth To Power" educational programme in  Romania starting the subsequent scholastic year. On April 7th 2009, RFK Europe and the Romanian Ministry of Education signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

The RFK Europe educational programme was presented in Bucharest during a press conference with Kerry Kennedy and the Romanian Minister Ecaterina Andronescu.

In fullfilment of the agreement with the Ministry, in the 2009-2010 scholastic year 5,000 copies of the booklet were distributed in 15 schools of Bucharest and surroundings, as part of the pilot project that will eventually spread to schools from all over the country.

The training day for teachers involved in the educational programme took place on February 4 2010. The training was held at Gheorge Lazar high school by (from left to right in the picture) Cristina Balan, of the local office of the UN, Eugen Stoica, from the Romanian Ministry of Education, and Valentina Pagliai, director of the Educational Programme for Europe.

Exhibition

The photo exhibition in Bucharest was opened by Kerry Kennedy on April 8 2009, and was on show until May.

Play

The play from Ariel Dorfman’s original text premiered in Bucharest on April 7 2009, at the Cotroceni Theatre, in the Presidential Cotroceni palace.
On December 10 2009, in celebration of  Human Rights Day, the play was staged at the Metropolis Theatre in Bucharest, performed by 14 inmates of Romanian prisons, as part of a project for the education for  detainees on human rights issues and in the implications of violations.
