Countries
Russia

Russia is a Federation extending from Europe to Asia. The President is Dmitrij Medvedev, the Prime Minister since 2008 is Vladimir Putin (who was President of the Federation from 2000 to 2004).

Human rights violations in Russia include the diffused and systematic torture by the police of suspects in preventive detention, the cruelty and negligence towards children in orphanages, violations of children’s rights.
Since 1992 at least 50 journalists have been killed.
Many human rights defenders have been put in prison, and some suspects have undergone torture and illtreatment.

The situation in Chechnya, devastated by war, raises serious concerns. There have been many extrajudicial killings, the forces disappearance of civilians, and torture.

Government officials have expressed themselves against racism, but racist attacks have been reported almost daily.
