Russia is a Federation extending from Europe to Asia.

Human rights violations in Russia include the diffused and systematic torture by the police of suspects in preventive detention, the cruelty and negligence towards children in orphanages, violations of children’s rights.

Since 1992 at least 50 journalists have been killed.

Many human rights defenders have been put in prison, and some suspects have undergone torture and illtreatment.

The situation in Chechnya, devastated by war, raises serious concerns. There have been many extrajudicial killings, forced disappearances, and torture.
