Sexual Slavery

Sexual slavery is the use of violence or of a dominant position on another person. It comprehends the repeated violence, sexual abuse, sexual favours, rape on the victim. This crime is repeated and continued.

The Rome Statue, creating the International Criminal Court, includes in the definition of sexual slavery the situation of people oblie to domestic obedience, wedding of any other forced labor that includes sexual activities, like trafficking, in particular in regards to women and girls.

Trafficking is the transportation of persons for the purpose of exploiting them sexually or economically for the advantage of the traffickers. Trafficking in women is a growing industry of exploitation and humiliation of women and children around the world. Women and girls from poor countries, refugees, and women of low social standing are most vulnerable because usually they are willing to migrate to richer countries to escape from extreme poverty in order to support their families.

They are victims of modern day slavery, forced to work as prostitutes, deprived of food and medical care, suffering mental and physical abuse, their movements restricted and controlled.

Most of the women are from South East Asia, South Asia, Latin America, Africa, and Eastern Europe, but trafficking is a global problem - victims, markets, and traffickers can be found worldwide.
