The Root: 'An LGBT Activist Remembered'

An Op-Ed by Joseph Tolton and RFK Human Rights Award Laureate Frank Mugisha

(2012-01-26) On the first year anniversary of the death of Ugandan LGBTI Activist David Kato, The Root published an op-ed by Pastor Joseph Tolton and 2011 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award Laureate Frank Mugisha on the global fight to end anti-gay bigotry. Tolton and Mugisha call on black communities to address the issues and honor David Kato's legacy.

"From Harlem to Kampala, as black people of African descent, we must have these conversations. Our children and their children are depending on us to find reconciliation and healing. From Harlem to Kampala, David Kato's life and legacy must be honored so that his tragic death will not have been in vain."
