Togo
Togo is a Republic of Western Africa. The President since 2005 is Faure Gnassingbé, son of the precedent president, dictator Gnassingbé Eyadéma.
Togo was a French colony until 1960, when it became independent.
The military coup in 1963, the first in Africa, brought Etienne Eyadéma to power in 1967. His regime lasted until 2005. Many international organizations have denounced frequent human rights violations by the army and the government.
The President has achieved power after a second coup d’état after the death of his father.
