The United States of America are a Federal Republica of Northern America. The President is Barack Obama, elected in 2008.

Citizens in the United States enjoy many civil rights  and can revert to a strong system of indipendent federal and state courts. However, there a serious concerns for human rights, chiefly in regards to justice, immigration, and antiterrorism laws and policies.

The United States is the only country  in the world to give life sentences without parole for people who committed the crimes as minors.
Underage and women workers have inadequate protection in their work environment.  Rape, domestic violence and violations of rights of foreign citizens are common.

In 2009 furthermore, the prison population increased, as well as the number of executions.
