Video: Interview with 2009 RFK Human Rights Award Laureate Magodonga Mahlangu

(2012-01-13) In December 2011, RFK Partners for Human Rights Advocacy Officer Mary Beth Gallagher interviewed 2009 RFK Human Rights Award Laureate Magodonga Mahlangu. In the interview, Ms. Mahlangu talks about her organization Women of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA) and her advocacy efforts in Zimbabwe. She also discusses the power of the individual, what inspires her to do her work, and what gives her hope.

Ms. Mahlangu and Women of Zimbabwe Arise (WOZA) are at the forefront of the struggle for peace and human rights in Zimbabwe. Ms. Mahlangu, a tireless and courageous human rights defender striving for democracy and women’s rights, is a leader of WOZA’s community-based advocacy and civic actions. Despite being arrested over 30 times and repeatedly facing police brutality, she remains steadfast in her commitment to a brighter future for Zimbabweans.
